Educational Programs
The Telluride Student All-Stars Jazz Ensemble,
directed by renowned jazz educator Bob Montgomery, is a national
talent search for students (ages 13 and up). The limited number
of students selected, via audition tapes, receive full-scholarships
to this special weeklong program to be held August 1-6. This special
ensemble works together throughout the week developing their skills
as future professionals and performing nightly at a club in town
and on the Telluride Jazz Celebration stage during the weekend.
Scholarships could also include air transportation, lodging, meals,
and festival passes. [details]
Panel Discussions take
place traditionally on Sunday morning featuring this year’s “Guest
of Honor” along with a wide variety of international personalities
including artists, media, writers, industry reps, and agents.
Masters Workshops featuring
top artists and educators will be held Saturday and Sunday
of the festival.

Artists in the Schools and the Library provides the opportunity
for all students in the area to interact with international jazz
artists appearing at the Jazz Society’s Winter Concerts and Jazz
Celebration. In recent years, this program has included bassist
Christian McBride, flutist Holly Hoffmann, guitarist Stanley Jordan
and Leroy Jones.
Summer and Winter Jazz Camp for local and regional students
of all ages. The Jazz Camps include weeklong workshops an d performance
groups directed by top jazz educators. Groups work throughout
the week to prepare for a weekend public performance. [details]
Free outdoor concerts and workshops take place throughout
the week of the Celebration at the Raynier Elks Park Free Stage
(located on Main St.) These free events involve the community
and help to bring the music to a wider audience.
Regional and national student groups are given the opportunity
to perform on both our side stages and the main stage. Recent
groups have included the UNLV Jazz Ensemble and Valley High School
from Las Vegas, Durango High School Jazz Ensemble, the Young Razzcals
Jazz Project from Albuquerque and Virginia, and The Alex Hahn
Quartet from Albuqueque.
